Poster Presentation guidelines

ISSW poster presentations offer a valuable opportunity to share your work and ideas with the international avalanche community. Poster presentations are unique because they provide a place for personal connection, discussion, and dialogue with beer and a snack in your hands.

Poster presentation:

The poster sessions at ISSW 2024 are 1 hour long. Make the most of them by creating a poster that attracts attention, make people talk, and help people learn as much as possible without fainting from exhaustion. Below are links to two videos explaining how to make great posters. The videos are a bit long, but we highly recommend watching both. 

Poster area location
The poster area is located across the street from the main entrance of the Venue, in “Havneterminalen.” Enter the building at street level and take the escalator to the next floor. Follow the signs to the poster area.

Posters on display:

  • All posters will hang for two days at Havneterminalen.  
  • Sessions 1 and 2: Monday & Tuesday 12:30 - 13:30 hrs. and 16:00 – 17:00 hrs. Posters should be mounted Monday between 08:00 and 10:30 hrs. Teardown on Wednesday between 16:00 and 17:00 hrs.
  • Sessions 3 and 4: Thursday 12:30 - 13:30 hrs. and 16:00 – 17:00 hrs. Friday 13:30 – 14:30 hrs. followed by the Farewell Party. Posters should be mounted Thursday between 08:00 and 10:30 hrs. Teardown Friday between 15:00 and 16:00 hrs.

Please note that posters not removed within the designated time will be disposed off.

Poster preparation
Posters can be affixed to the poster board using provided pins.
Please consider the following formatting:

  • Maximum size 980 mm x 1380 mm or 38,5 inches x 54,3 inches
  • Portrait format
  • Fonts: Title = 90-120 pt, Headings = 70-80 pt, Main text = 36-40 pt
  • Carefully consider the amount and readability of your text
  • Provide captions and clear descriptions for all figures, tables, and images.
  • Your poster should be comprehendible without further explanation.
  • Clearly label all your sections

Print your poster in Tromsø
To avoid bringing a large and bulky poster tube on your flight to Tromsø we offer you to print our poster locally. The cost is only NOK 500,- + 25 % VAT. Startup cost per order NOK 150,- + VAT in addition. The printers will invoice you directly. Payment must be made before arrival in Tromsø.
